Vrangbækgaard Vin

Vrangbækgaard Vin

Vrangbækgaard Vin is a family project started by Torben Toldam-Andersen, who teaches fruit growing and viticulture at the University of Copenhagen, together with his two brothers, Ejgil and Johannes on their birth farm, now owned by Ejgil as the 3rd generation on the farm.

The vineyard is located on a south-facing slope close to the Langeland Belt – and to further improve the microclimate and biodiversity, the stream that gives the farm its name has been restored after being culverted for almost 100 years. The stream has now been cleared and re-culverted below the vineyard.

The vineyard has been farmed organically from the start in 2011 – using only grape varieties developed to be resistant to rot, mildew and mold, so the vineyard can be kept healthy with just a few preventive sprays of natural fungicides and no chemical pesticides at all.

Through (very) manual work and optimizations on all parameters, the small vineyard produces a high yield of beautifully ripe grapes almost every year. This results in naturally balanced and tasty wines that win many awards.

We make many different wines. White wine, rosé wine, orange wine and (white and red) fortified wine. We also make white and rosé sparkling wines. We do not make red wine as we believe that the few blue grapes that ripen properly in Denmark do not make a good enough red wine.

But to solve this problem, we are currently developing the next generation of resistant grape varieties – so that in a few years we will be able to make tasty and sustainable red wine in Denmark.

The winery is open for visits by appointment.
